On A Western Rock   click to hear recording of poem

This cold blood thaws
as father fire above
bathes backside

with invisible fire breath
also warming underside
with rock reflected heat.

Then the day dream
anciently recurring
evolving and refined

over eons of long siestas
since fiery creation
streams upward.

Warm rock daydream
of midday bask
absorbed from this rock

through magical osmosis
streams upward
through grey lichen

into rainbow belly
where grateful blood burns.
Streams upward.

A reverberation of
that primal word spoken
into ancient earth crucible

and streaming upward ever since
to enchant the heart of this rock

this lichen

this lizard.
