Riparian Music click to hear recording of poem
This music
plucked by river rocks
and voiced by feathered choir
could persuade most non-believers
to welcome home their hearts
to the church of
green-leaved scripture
granite boulder pews
and pure preaching water.
This music
kissed by chaos
is the pulse
of Her womb
lovingly pushing
quietly delivering
us
with deep breaths
through a pain
only a forest
can know.
This music
if we cup our hearts
could compel us to
renaissance and victory
fighting this fatal age
of extinction greed and gloom
as that Least Bell's Vireo
fights loneliness.
For if the sound of our song
fills the forest
and no birds are left to hear
will we fall?
